![]() Any editor that monkey wrenches that earns a slash mark from my red pen.Īnd they're wrong about that if you use their retouch tools. I have a strong preference toward parametric editing that gives me a non-destructive and non-linearly re-editable raw workflow. Some people could probably care less, but I'm not one of them. On1's retouch tools add a destructive element into the raw edit. On1 is a parametric raw editor but with the retouch tools they've sinned against the parametric god of non-destruction. One of the points of parametric editing is you shouldn't have to do that. ![]() ![]() You can try and erase/clone over your original erase/clone job but you can't remove the original and re-do it without removing all of the erase/clone jobs in the entire photo and starting from scratch. Let's say it's the 5th blemish removal/clone you did previously. Then back to retouching and you remove/clone another 4 blemishes and notice that one of the earlier blemish removals isn't exactly right and you'd like to adjust it. Then you notice you'd like to make a local color adjustment and you do that. In a first session you remove/clone 8 different blemishes. For example you start using ON1's retouch tools to remove/clone blemishes from your photo. So the destructive element in On1's retouch tools is that you can't surgically undo them or modify them. Any editor that monkey wrenches that earns a slash mark from my red pen. Capture One in that regard has me spoiled. They are mediocre at best and do not compete with even free software like DarkTable which runs circles around On1's retouch tools. If I had to use it I'd be reasonably content and able to do good work. It does a good job demosaicing Fuji X-Trans and it offers and impressive toolset of features that should allow you to take an edit from start to finish without need for additional software. If I was handing out letter grades I'd give it a B. I have looked carefully at it's editing abilities and I'd basically score it good. I can't comment on ON1's organizing and image management options - no real experience.
