Then there’s a mission where I had to open up a bunch of port-a-potties looking for an escaped conduit. The story missions have a number of “trace the cell phone signal” and “chase this conduit” missions nestled between the usual “go here and kill these guys” engagements. Boring and inconsequential are a deadly combination. Aside from keeping random patrols from harassing you, or going after trophies, I don’t know why you’d do any side missions or care about removing enemy control. There are also shard drones to track down so that you can upgrade your powers. Admittedly, it’s pretty cool graffiti but it’s not exactly superhero stuff. Stencil art has you making graffiti on the city’s various walls. Secret agent missions have you looking at a picture of an enemy agent on your phone and then murdering them. Audio drops have you tracking a signal with your cell phone and then picking up an audio log. ![]() Hidden camera missions have you looking at your phone to see the camera’s viewpoint and then finding the camera and destroying it. If the missions used to lower enemy control were interesting, they would be their own reward, but they’re pretty dull. Clearing a district gives you a fast travel point and you also get…uh…no, that’s it. It’s literally one street over from where they’re already standing. Win the showdown and the bad guys are driven out of the district, a silly notion given that there are no physical barriers keeping them from coming back. The city is divided up into districts and once you take out an enemy outpost, you can lower their control of the district until a showdown becomes available. Not to say that there are no rewards in Second Son. There’s none of that urgency in Second Son. When the strangers and freaks mark appeared on the map of Los Santos, you want to go there to see what crazy resident needs your help. Grand Theft Auto V rewards the player with money and some pretty whacked out characters to experience. That’s to say nothing of the thrill of taking to the seas and attacking forts, plundering naval convoys and taking down legendary ships. Naval contracts in Assassin’s Creed IV reward you with money and golden guns, assassination missions give you money and gun-swords, finding the various Mayan stelae rewards you with bulletproof armor. For all of their faults, those games gave the player a tremendous amount to do as well as solid reasons for doing those things. More like it’s replaced with a different kind of disappointment.ĭid Sucker Punch feel they needed to make an open world game because the previous Infamous games were open world? Or did they want to make a 3rd person action adventure game in a market that hasn’t been kind to any games in that genre that don’t have “Zelda” in their title? Whatever the cause, there is a significant lack of stuff to do here, a lack that is even more glaring when you consider recent open world escapades like Grand Theft Auto V and Assassin’s Creed IV. At first glance this may be disappointing, the disappointment fades when you realize that there’s not that much to do in the city. The game returns to the days of old by blocking off half of the city until the story progresses far enough. Seattle is beautifully created, if somewhat squished for creative purposes, with plenty of real life shops and landmarks nestled among the various references to other Sucker Punch games. Augustine is currently overseeing the lockdown of Seattle, so it’s off to the Emerald City we go. The only conduit with concrete powers is Brooke Augustine, head of the police force charged with capturing conduits. ![]() This is a handy skill given that the only way he can save the members of his tribe - he’s part of a fictional Native American tribe called the Akomish - is by absorbing the concrete powers of the game’s villain - concrete is a type of power in this game - and then using those powers to heal his town’s residents. Turns out Delsin is a prime conduit which means he can absorb the powers of other conduits. ![]() The transport of these prisoners and their subsequent escape brings them in contact with Delsin Rowe, graffiti artist and quippy miscreant. Most conduits are now locked up in a Guantanamo Bay style prison. The world knows about conduits, the name for superpowered folks in the Infamous universe. Second Son takes place several years after the events of Infamous 2. To quote the Talking Heads, “Lights on, nobody home.”Īfter the jump, it’s a small world after all. The fact that this is an open world game makes this shortcoming all the more stinging. ![]() But it’s a disappointing step backwards in terms of building giant, immersive worlds. Infamous: Second Son certainly fits the bill in terms of looking pretty. A new generation of hardware should usher in a new generation of not just better looking worlds, but more expansive ones.

With the Pegasus Boots, he could now plow down the obstacles in the left hallway. Link continued to the second room he entered in Key Cavern, the one with two passages. With no where left to go, Link used his new-found Pegasus Boots to charge into the obstacles in the south-side of the room. With the Pegasus Boots, you can now take out the teleporting enemies with ease, and you can get the Ocarina from the Dream Shrine. You only have to imagine what kind of fighter you prefer, which martial arts do they practice, and how do they look – and there’s a big chance that Tekken 7 has just the character for you. This makes the challenging task of selecting the one you want to play somewhat easier. Overall, it would be fair to say that all Tekken characters are unique or, at the very least, offer something that none other do. I hope in Tekken 8 they let you select DLC characters without having to buy them. Tekken 7 DLC characters include Anna, Lei, Marduk, Armor King, Julia, Zafina, Ganryu, Leroy, Fahkumram, Lidia, and Kunimitsu. Make DLC characters available in practice Mode. This gave them the opportunity to bring back some of the crowd favorites and create new striking fighters filling different niches and archetypes. The initial success prompted the developers to start thinking about more DLCs beyond the planned one wave. Tekken 7 guest characters are Geese, Noctis, Negan, and the aforementioned Akuma. Since then, there have been more crossover fighters added with the follow-up DLCs. He’s the second-ever guest character in the series after Gon in Tekken 3. One of those newcomers, namely Akuma, might be familiar to many from a different series – Street Fighter. The New Tekken 7 character list features Akuma, Claudio, Gigas, Jack-7, Josie, Katarina, Kazumi, Lucky Chloe, Master Raven, and Shaheen. We also got ten new fighters to go alongside the legacy ones. Eliza, technically also a returning character, made her main game debut as a pre-order DLC. Tekken 7 legacy characters include Alisa, Asuka, Bob, Bryan, Devil Jin, Dragunov, Eddy, Feng, Heihachi, Hwoarang, Jin, Kazuya, King, Kuma, Lars, Lee, Leo, Lili, Law, Miguel, Nina, Panda, Paul, Steve, Xiaoyu, and Yoshimitsu. More than half of those were previously featured in the series. Initially, the Tekken 7 roster consisted only of 36 fighters – a decent number further boosted by the DLC releases. The seventh mainline game featured improved visuals, and tighter gameplay and controls, thanks to the decision to move from the proprietary engine and make the game on Unreal Engine 4. ![]() Even so, everyone’s gaze quickly shifted to it from the previous entry that was Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Tekkens tag-team spin-off returns for its second round, building on the game engine of Tekken 6 with a whopping 44-character roster (later updated to 59). The latest entry in the storied franchise was released with all the fanfare that the game of this caliber is entitled to, and it didn’t disappoint.Īs is always the case with the series, Tekken 7 has first arrived on Arcades full two years before the game saw the console and PC release. ![]() It’s wild to think that Tekken 7 has been with us since 2015. |
